Rivers & Lakes

Greece is crossed by at least 37 rivers, some bigger and other smaller raging rivers which make it a breathtaking cinema destination. The amount of water they carry is increased in fall and winter thanks to the heavy rainfall and thus their image becomes even more spectacular. The longest river in Greece is the 297 km Aliakmonas that originates from the mountains Grammos and Voio and flows into the Thermaic Gulf between Thessaloniki and Katerini forming a Delta of 40,000 acres where rare species of birds are gathered, creating an outstanding cinematic beauty.

Greece is adorned with both natural and artificial lakes full of crystal clear waters which reflect the beauty of the landscape that surrounds them and place them in the Pantheon of cinematic destinations. An example is Lake Trichonida, located in the prefecture of Etoloakarnania, one of the largest, natural lakes in Greece with an area of 95,840 square km, maximum length 21,490 km, maximum width 6,700 km and maximum depth 58 m.. Also, the artificial lake Doxa, fed by the torrent of the same name, is located in a green plain surrounded by pines, firs, oaks and broadleaves at an altitude of 1,000 meters.
