Bridges & Tunnels

Greece owns almost 17.000 bridges, as technical constructions which connect two or more places by passing above natural or technical obstacles. There are more contemporary constructions like the cable bridge of Rio – Antirio “Bridge of Harilaos Trikoupis” which connect Rio, a suburb of the city Patra with Antirio, Peloponissos with the western mainland of Greece and the rest of Europe. There are also modern footbridges like the one of Katechaki in Athens. When between the most classical type bridges is the Bridge of Tempi, under which the Pinies River passes and the Bridge of Arta, known from the legend of the sacrifice of the first master’s wife. Depending on how modern or not each of them is, it can host shooting for audiovisual productions that are placed at different time periods.

Tunnels are the underground passageways that are fully enclosed on all sides, have some small openings at each side as emergency exits and their length is twice their width. The largest Road Tunnels in Greece that are suitable for filming are: Tebes (6 Km), Drisco (4,6Km), Panagopoula (4 Km), Metsovo (3.5 Km), Dodonis (3.36 Km), Klokovas (3 Km), Platamona (3 Km), Panagia (2.66 km), Agios Konstantinos (2.5 Km).
